For those of you who think I complain too much about my wonderful, "Joe Taxpayer" supported job as a public librarian, here is something positive.
One of my favorite families is moving from our area. I will miss them greatly. Not only are they regular attendees at story hour, but the mom clearly understands that the purpose of the library is the BOOKS--and she and her daughter take plenty home with them.
They made me a lovely present--a canvas book bag they decorated with several favorite book titles, my name and the words "Best Librarian"
I will treasure the bag. But I will treasure the thought that went behind the gift even more. And most of all the mother's words about her daughter--"she always loved books and reading, but your program made it special".
That's what makes it all worth it.
That's why I do what I do.
That's why I would never want to do anything else................
