Not a young child's book at all,but a beautifully written book about friendship, greed, self centeredness and love.
The best illustrations are by Ernest Shepherd. He was also the first (and only REAL!) illustrator of Winnie the Pooh!

Perhaps I Know More Than I Thought I Did--Or, And For My Next Trick, I'm Going to Make Sure Rove, Libby AND Cheney All Get Indicted...
We have had this guy come in and apply repeatedly for library positions--both here and at another location. Thing is, this guy is extremely introverted and doesn't like dealing with people--not exactly ideal material to stand at the circulation desk of a library. He's also just plain weird. Not eccentric (which most of us here qualify for!), WEIRD.
A job just opened up at our technical services office. It is basically nothing but data entry--punching numbers into a computer all day long. It requires ZERO contact with the public and minimal contact with other staff members. And the hours suited "Weirdo"'s personal strange schedule.
So I had joking suggested that if there was one job in the library this guy would be perfect for, it would be THAT job.
And damned if they didn't hire him!
First that, and then yesterday, I tell the world I oppose Harriet Miers nomination and she suddenly withdraws!
This is getting creepy.
Either that--or it's too many Halloween programs at work are getting me slap-happy...............................................
