I happened upon a site that reviews library related blogs and found the following comments on my blog:
Although there are new postings almost daily, library-related postings are more on the order of 2 to 6 per month. They tend to be short, but entertaining. It could be a useful site for people without a sense of what it is like to be a children's librarian, but those in the profession may not find much food for the mind, since this is mainly a rant-inspired blog.
I'm glad the review said I give people a sense of what it's like to be a children's librarian. It's my intention to do so. Not for my fellow librarians, but for the people on the other side of the desk. The mom and dads, the nannies, the teachers, the little old ladies and all the rest of the weird and wonderful people who use the public library.
I also want people to see that librarians are far more than timid old maids with cardigans around their shoulders and glasses on a chain. Some of us (gasp) even use COMPUTERS!
We even (shhh!) have families and lives outside the libraries................
But I am not intending on offering a lot of "food for the mind" for other members of my profession. Recipes for edible food, yes (and I hope people find my recipes more than merely edible!), but I never intended for this to be a professional blog!
This is a personal blog. It's not a "library blog", because there are just so many versions of the "horrible patron" story I need to tell, and I am far more interested in the personal aspects of my job than the sort of esoteric stuff that fills professional journals.
I'm not writing a "mommy blog" because while my darling demons daughters, the Man and the cats are the center of MY universe, the universe extends far beyond my doorstep.
Nor is this a purely "political blog, because I don't have the time to focus on such matters, and I think you really have to in order to write intelligently AND entertainingly on issues of the day.
So this blog is a mish-mosh. One day I'm "enlightening the gentiles", the next I am ranting about politics, or counting the number of "Jennifer" blogs I find in my surfing.
I complain about my kids, chuckle at library happenings and offer recipes I love. I rail at politicians and post cartoons about laundry and fantasy camps for moms.
I never know WHAT I'm going to write about next, and that's just how I like it.
And to any librarians out there, try some of my recipes. They may not be "food for the mind" but the staff at the library seems to be pretty happy to eat any of them I bring to work........
