I was reading a mommy blog where the mom is commenting on the potty words coming from her "brilliant and adorable" toddler.
Considering that her blog is PACKED with expletive deleteds, I wonder where Little Darling Toddler picked up those expressions?
Now I have no objections in principle to expletive deleteds. Having gone to a very urban junior high school in the Bronx some decades (!) ago, I learned all those words and I learned them well. I still use some of them quite a bit.
But there's a time and a place for them. And in front of your kids is not the place!
Yeah, I've slipped on occasion. We all do. But IN GENERAL, I have managed to NOT use them in front of the girls!
I've also managed not to use them in this blog. So could most people if they tried. In fact, it's a lot more interesting expressing your ire WITHOUT such words. Use that vocabulary, folks. I'm sure I'm not the ONLY English major out there. Or go to Dictionary.com --they've got a thesaurus!
I talked to SC about this recently. I know she has heard such words.
I mean--come on, she's 10, and while I do limit her exposure to TV and movies laced with profanities, I know durned well her friends are not necessarily growing up in families with similar policies! In fact, in several cases I am SURE they are not.....
My point to her was, I know you hear them. I know you may use them. But DON'T use them in front of me. DON'T use them in front of grown ups in general. And know that you will NOT sound smart or cool using them! You'll just sound profane.
The same goes for moms. And dads. And, for that matter, bloggers..........................................
