I had worried that JR would get homesick staying with my parents, but she didn't get that chance.
Sunday morning my mom called and said my father had to go to the emergency room. He's 86 and takes countless medications, one of which makes him have problems where small cuts or scrapes turn into bigger wounds. He had a wound on his arm and it needed to be seen to by a doctor.
There was also a second, more worrisome problem. Hopefully it's nothing but a bladder infection--we're still waiting to hear the results on that.
So the Man and I dropped SC with my in-laws--I had just enough time to hug them and hand over the tomatoes and peppers I'd brought them from my garden. And then we were off, back to Pennsylvania.
We met my parents and JR at the emergency room, and after several hours my dad was released with a prescription. We drove my parents back to my brother's summer place, packed up JR's stuff and headed home.
The trip home was easy--very pleasant and we managed to cheer ourselves up by stopping at a road stand for sweet local peaches and nectarines, and to have dinner at a favorite mountain restaurant.
JR ended up back at camp again. Luckily they had space in the group she enjoys, and camp is for two weeks. So next week I can work more hours and won't have to take much time off from work as I'd been planning.
Hopefully, my dad will be feeling fine by the weekend. And we will head back to NY, get SC and let the Man and JR visit with my in-laws while I do some shopping at Fairway. Then we'll head back through Pennsylvania and spend that night with my parents.
And with any luck, next Sunday WILL be a fun day!
