This wonderful Yiddish word is the diminutive version of the word tsatske, meaning"toy" . But it is frequently used to address cute girls and women. The word usually implies "cute but brainless". I had an incredibly nutty science teacher in the 8th grade who used to address all the ditzy girls in the class as such. Needless to say, I was not one of those girls....
Just as well. He was scary in a temper. And he lived upstairs from my aunt and uncle and they used to play mah-jong together............
I was inspired to define this fine word for you because of a current Blog Explosion pet peeve of mine that is largely a product of tsatskeleh
Tiny type.Really tiny type
Or, as the late lamented Gilda Radner's ditsy old lady Emily Litella would have said:
"Teeny tiny, itsy bitsy, eency-weency, WEE little type!"
Type so small you need a magnifying glass to read it on a desktop. As for a laptop--well, I wait 30 seconds and click for the next blog.
Look, tsatskeleh,I know teeny-tiny can be cute. Certainly in babies and small animals it is adorable. But in terms of blogs it is not READABLE. So please, pretty please, use a font face that is big enough to be read!
After all, if I want to READ what you've written amidst the waterfalls, flowers, faeries, and pretty pretty pictures of your pretty pretty selves, it has to be somewhat legible. And if you don't want it to be read, please get it the hell off of Blog Explosion and save it for your equally cutie-patootie little friends..............................
Until next time, abei gezunt............
