The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    Want The Latest Mishegosse?

Okay, I'm the One Who Caused This Snowstorm

    posted Sun, 02/12/06

    I confess.

I got tired of waiting for snow to do a snow stories program this winter. So last week at story times I read:

And of course, I HAD to read this:

AND I wore my vest with the penguins and the snowflakes on it.

So of course we finally got some snow right after all of that!  Not a lot compared to those of you further up the I95 corridor, but a lot for the DC area.

The reports say we got about 8 inches. The Man thinks we got about  6 or so. It's wet, heavy snow. Lots of tree branches are down including a big branch from the tree that overhangs our house. Our new neighbors who share the breezeway are about to move in and their unit has a whole bunch of tiles off the roof. The only bright side of that whole thing is we finally may be able to persuade the condo association to cut down the tree. It's beautiful, but it's dangerous to the roof AND the roots have pushed up under our patio so badly that it's too bumpy to really use it!

JR has been out TWICE playing in the snow and the Man and SC took a long walk and cleared off our cars.  And I'm content to curl up inside, do lots of baking and enjoy the view.

So sorry, residents of NY, Boston and points in between. But then again, this is what winter is SUPPOSED to be like!

And don't get rid of your snow shovels after this. Because next week at programs I am going to read this:
