The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

Monday Morning Weigh In: Up and Down on the Merry Go Round

    posted Mon, 08/11/08

This is what the scale was saying this AM. But I've given Weight Watchers the same 147 as last week, because the scale keeps going up and down. Especially since I always seem to have menstrual bloat right AFTER my period!

I hoped going back to ballet would help. It does in that I feel better and stronger when I dance (no cramps last week for one thing) and because I can see that  I'm making progress in ballet. But I clearly need to add other exercise to my days.

I have started using  "Dance Dance Revolution"--and I'm not that bad at it. Not a whiz like JR of course, but she's 9 and I'm <ahem> a lot older than that. It would help too if so many of the songs didn't suck--lots of pounding current pop junk. When I know the song and have the beat down, I find it's pretty easy--at least on the beginner's level.

I'll keep going. Especially since De of "Shilly Shally Dilly Dally" is now racing me. Though I STILL can't see why she needs to diet--she looks great in her pictures.....
