The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    Want The Latest Mishegosse?

    Fourth of July 2009

    posted Sun, 07/05/09

Well, apparently the Pentagon officials must have read my rant about the poor handling of things there last July 4th  Tongue out, because they had it organized this year. We were able to go and park in the parking lot, walk up a ramp that leads to the highway, and onto the bridge where we watched the fireworks 2 years ago.
We ended up sitting in the grass--next year we bring a blanket and a chair or two!

JR was very happy because she got to bring her best friend with her.  The girls have known each other since they were babies, and they hadn't been together for some months.

The Man didn't get a chance to eat his second helping of bulgogi, rice and heaven knows what else, so he brought it along. Not that he NEEDED a second helping (!) but it made him less grouchy and SC stole some bites.

We had to wait an hour for the fireworks, but they were worth it--some of the best that I have ever seen.
This is just a small clip of the fireworks. You can find others on YouTube, but funnily enough, I think that we had a better view than the people on the Mall!

We'll be back there again next year!
