We're back.
Actually, we got back Saturday, but I've been too busy--and too pooped when I'm not being busy--to blog. We didn't have a perfect vacation--either weather wise or 13 year old girl wise
, but over all we had a good time.
I ate ice cream just about every night for a week (and yes, Denise, I had Marsh Mud, but it's Iced Nirvana that was my fave this time) and still managed to come home weighing a bit less:
We had one last swim in the pool (well, it may be open next weekend, depends on the weather). JR took 4 weeks of swim camp at the Y and now swims like the little mermaid that she is. She's even trying to dive--though I hate watching that.
We had bulgogi (Korean barbecue beef),rice, Korean style spinach(well, the Man and I did), sliced red and yellow Brandywine tomatoes (ours!) and orange peppers (ours too) for Labor Day dinner. I meant to invite friends, but just didn't have the energy for company.
JR and SC started school today. We spent over $120 on school supplies yesterday--and that's not even counting SC's new backpack. Sheesh! Remember when school just mean some new pencils and a notebook or two?
SC is entering the 8th grade, her last at middle school and she PLANNED what she was going to wear--her red "Ballet Olympics" t-shirt, blue shorts and her blue Crocs. That doesn't sound very impressive, but this is the kid who usually pulls the first two things out of her drawers and pulls them on, and doesn't brush her hair unless I tell her too. Last night she let me smooth it with the hot comb and she wanted it braided, AND she let me brush it and rebraid it this morning. And when I mentioned her zits, she actually went upstairs and put some medication on them right then!
AND she ate breakfast. Is this perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel, or is it just a first day thing?
Well, I can dream, can't I?
JR never needs to be told to pick out clothes or fix her hair--she's a prinker. She was nervous this morning, though she swore she wasn't. And when we entered school, she didn't make eye contact with any of the teachers. I think she expected no one would recognize her for some reason--but everyone does...
My garden is full of ripe tomatoes (including those Brandywines), Mexican bean beetles have pretty well killed any chance of my getting any Roma green beans, and a butternut squash vine has overtaken half the plot. We're going to be eating butternut squash risotto soon and I'd better get some other recipes as well....
I've got no staff at work, but then I don't have to do programs for another 2 weeks, and after a week of togetherness, I'm kind of enjoying my quiet office
My sunflower garden outside the library is GORGEOUS--the first few have flowers and the zinnias, marigolds and salvia are putting on quite a show. Pictures coming...
And what's new with YOU?
